ANODIZING
Aluminum Anodizing is an electrolytic coating process used to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts. Anodizing increases corrosion resistance and wear resistance, and provides better adhesion for paint primers and glues than does bare metal. Standard Mil-Spec for Anodizing is MIL-A-8625.

CHEMICAL FILM
Chem Film, sometimes called Alodine or Iridite, is a chemical conversion coating that is used to essentially passivate aluminum. It protects aluminum from corrosion and serves as a base for organic (paint) coatings while leaving the part dimensions unchanged. Standard Mil-Spec is MIL-DTL-5541.

ELECTROLESS NICKEL PLATING
Electroless Nickel Plating is the deposition of a nickel-phosphorous alloy onto a substrate (base material) without the use of an electrical current. The electroless nickel plating process utilizes an autocatalytic chemical reaction to deposit a reliable, repeatable coating of uniform thickness. Standard Mil-Spec for Electroless Nickel is MIL-C-26074.

ELECTROPOLISHING
Electropolishing is the controlled electro-chemical removal of surface metal, resulting in a significant brightening of the part surface and improved corrosion properties. Standard process specification for Electropolish is EPS 502 (Electrolurgy Proprietary Specification).

NICKEL PLATING
Nickel electroplating is a technique of electroplating a thin layer of nickel onto a metal object. The nickel layer can be decorative, provide corrosion resistance, wear resistance, or used to build-up worn or undersized parts for salvage purposes.

NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING (NDT)
Non-destructive testing is a group of testing techniques used in science and industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component or system without causing damage. Because NDT does not permanently alter the article being inspected, it is a highly valuable technique that can save both money and time in product evaluation, troubleshooting, and research.

Priming and painting of parts with epoxy primers and topcoats is critical to the aerospace industry. Application of Dry Film Lubricants for wear applications, along with Teflon coatings and Carc are also critical to Military/Aerospace markets.

PASSIVATION
Passivation of stainless steel is performed when free iron, oxide scale, rust, iron particles, metal chips or other deposits might adversely affect the condition of the surface or cause corrosion. Stainless steel is passivated through a cleaning cycle to remove oils, grease, compounds, lubricants, and residue followed by a nitric or a citric acid bath that removes the free iron and contaminants. Standard Mil-Spec is QQ-P-35.

SILVER PLATING
Anyweld's Industrial silver plating is an excellent corrosion resistant coating that can be plated on steel, aluminum, copper, bronze and stainless steel alloys. Because of silver’s conductivity and excellent solderability, it is often plated onto electrical components. It is widely used in the aerospace industry on engine turbine components for its outstanding lubricity, even at high temperatures. For the same reason, it is sometimes used as a break-in coating on gears. Anyweld offers silver plating for non-decorative industrial applications which are typically dull, matte or semi-bright in appearance. Standard specification is AMS 2410 and AMS 2412.

ZINC-NICKEL PLATING
Plated Zinc-Nickel is a durable, highly corrosion resistant coating that was developed in part as a replacement for Cadmium Plating. It is used in the protection of steel, cast iron, copper, brass and bronze. Zinc-Nickel is recognized as an environmentally safe alternative to cadmium electroplating. In specific applications, Zinc-Nickel demonstrates equivalent, or better, corrosion properties when compared to cadmium. Zinc-Nickel is normally applied for corrosion protection purposes, and functions as a “sacrificial coating”, corroding before the base material. Standard specification is AMS 2417.
